Come join Austin Kieffer in the 2019 L2L Surfski clinic. Austin will spend a full hour breaking down everything he has learned about the sport of Surfski over the past 7 years. Austin will cover equipment choices and setup, basic flatwater technique, rough water technique, downwind strategies and secrets, warm-up, how to design a workout, building a training program, tapering, race strategy, and race execution. After the talk (and peppered throughout the different sections), Austin will do his best to answer any questions you might have about your own surfski journey and how to get the most out of your paddling!

Following the clinic we will provide an opportunity to get on the water and practice what you have learned.

Who is Austin?

Austin Kieffer has competed on the water for over 18 years. He raced for over a decade in whitewater slalom, spending 4 years on the US Olympic Development Team in preparation for the Beijing and London Olympic Trials. In 2012 he made the transition to Surfski and instantly fell in love the sport. Austin has trained and raced all over the world and placed 9th in the 2017 Surfski World Championships. He is the current and 5x US National Surfski Champion. As the Lighthouse to Lighthouse singles record holder, Austin is excited to return to the Norwalk to compete once again in this iconic event and share his expertise and love of the sport!

The Lighthouse To Lighthouse Race is 7 or 14 miles of open water racing for any seaworthy, human-powered craft along the scenic Norwalk Islands on the Connecticut shore. Join us for a day of racing, food and fun on Long Island Sound.

Team Stellar USA member Beata Cseke talks about growing the ranks of women paddlers in surfski racing.
